THE SHORT VEIL

The short veil has many names: petal veil, birdcage, fly away, blusher. The good news is, there are no rules anymore about pairing short veils with short dresses. Whatever works is the guideline and has more to do with following proportions and personal style. The shorter ‘fashionista' veil has not only gained in popularity, it's a bridal fashion fixture. My client Monique put it succinctly: "I'm

SHADES OF PEACH AND CORAL

What redhead wouldn't love this board. I admit it, I'm naturally attracted to these tones and once I got a load of the vintage threads all lined up monochromatically, this board went up. Love to claim credit but this is the work of the very talented, So Much Love over at SMP. You can catch her blog, of the same name and see (and read if you know Portugese) all about her unique take on fashion,

HATS AND FLOWERS

I always said if there were a sequel to Breakfast at Tiffany's, we'd find Holly Golightly sporting a hat on her wedding day. Since HG is really that zanier side of Audrey Hepburn that surfaced in the 1960s, she set the trend for le chapeau as an item of chic rather than a required accessory. So brides of today are following her lead, wearing a hat to clinch a whole bridal look while expressing a

2010 TREND: THE MANTILLA

Flowers by Victoria's Florals Gown and veil by Amy-Jo Tatum Bridal /Photos by S1 StudiosOne real hot look for 2010 is the drop veil–or to be more preciese–the mantilla. . . There are actually a few ways of wearing a mantilla. Because this veil lacks density, you can fold it over into a layer and tack it to the back of a bun. You can also literally drop it atop your head and wear it over the face

BERRY BLUE

When I found this board over at SMP I just had to share it with you. Naomi of Enchanted Dream Weddings who created all this yum-yum chic has a thing for berries--blue berries in particular. I call this blue a clear almost ice pastel that lends itself well to both fashion and food. You'll find more inspiring combos over on Naomi's blog . . .

THE SHORT DRESS BRIDE

The very first wedding I ever went to was my aunt's. She was married in 1963 in a short dress--because--as all the grown-ups told me, the family couldn't afford a big to-do ergo big dress with a train! Today these little dresses would go well for a big or small to-do. I'm finding some brides simply love the short dresses and are going for them on their wedding day just because they are easy to

ACCESS

I've been posting lately about choice bridal head wear becoming an art form. Well, what do you think of these Which Goose gemmies joining the great exhibit? For me the lace doilie pieces are so apropos for a bride. The colorful pieces with whimsical combos of feathers, flowers, twigs and beads offer a different swing on bridal for sure. WHAT'S NEW IN THE GOWN GALLERY?

Here's the newest addition to the line of dupionis. This is my favorite dress to date. Called FLORA for reasons you can probably figure out, the fabric is a lightweight tissue taffeta and thai silk combo. Chantilly lace adorns the bodice as silk florals are placed asymmetrically along the shoulder. Three silk florals embellish the detachable organza train and rose petals are dappled allover it.

VEIL PRIMER

Think about it: you'll probably wear a knock out gown again sometime in your life but when will you ever get the opportunity to wear a veil? That's something to ponder when you're weighing out the, "Will I or won't I veil?" question. The gorgeous board above was put together by Liane Roy of Forget Me Not Details in Buffalo, NY. It has just about every veil you can think of starting off with the

TWO WAY COUTURE

Thought I should mention the popular MIRA gown that made such a buzz last season is actually a two-way dress. First version is a halter dress. The second, hugs the shoulder with cap-like sleeves. You've seen the halter all over the blogs thanks to the fantastic photographic talents of Stephanie Williams. I finally have images of the off-the-shoulder sleeve treatment created by criss-crossing the

THE FASCINATOR AS MODERN ART

Fascinator, headpiece or tiara? Well, you make the call. And, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find any of these pieces by Pina gracing the galleries of MOMA or The Guggenheim. Floral and feather combos have come into the bridal fashion arena big time. Although even the most fashion forward brides might tone these down a little, I consider them some of the most inspiring I've seen thus far . . .

COULD RED BE THE NEW WHITE IN TEN YEARS?

Dress by Amy-Jo Tatum BridalGet a load of this before you head out to look at dozens of virginal white dresses. Did you know in some cultures white is the color of mourning? That's right. It seems ice and snow go hand and hand with freezing to death and/or the void of nothingness. There are traditions that prize red for its warmth and beauty, christening it the color of festivals and celebration.
